Online shopping transaction size increased by 51.6% in 2012

According to iResearch the online shopping transaction size for Q2 was 268.37 billion yuan. That is an increase of 51.6% compared to the same period last year. Food and shoes have the highest monthly growth rate of orders with 36.7% and 21.6%. Although the annual growth rate of online shopping industry declines, the B2C sector remains more than 100% y-o-y growth.

Will E-Commerce Beat The Traditional Channels?

The latest statistics from iResearch have shown, that China's online shopping market amounted to 268,37 billion RMB for Q2 2012, which is an increase of 17,5% compared to the previous quarter. The revenue of traditional channels is declining: In the period of January to February, electrical appliances sold through these channels have decreased by 32%. It seems that e-commerce is really getting mainstream and therefore it is vital for retailers to establish their online presence.

Joint venture of PPR and YOOX

The world's third-largest luxury good group PPR announced to set up a joint venture with Italian luxury e-commerce group YOOX and they will enter the Chinese market. The official network flagship stores of the brands Segio Rossi and Bottega Veneta will open this year. Others like Yves Sant Laurent or Alexander McQuenn will follow next year. YOOX Group already launched the regular priced luxury online shop thecorner.cn. Second half of this year they also plan to launch a luxury discount shop in China.
